Inner Circle

Wharton Center's Inner Circle is a volunteer organization made up of 300+ members. You can take an active part in supporting the professional performing arts in this community by becoming a member and donating some time to the arts in Mid-Michigan.

Inner Circle was formed in 1982. Its members serve as volunteer ambassadors, linking Wharton Center and the community. Its formation arises from a belief that knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of the arts are fundamental to the development of our society.

Wharton Center Inner Circle Volunteer Committees

Committee members work directly with the Director of the Institute for Arts & Creativity to develop and enhance Wharton Center's Youth Outreach programs. These volunteers serve as in-school docents before selected performances or ushers for Act One School Series performances during the daytime.

The Annual Membership Events Committee is responsible for coordinating and managing three receptions/luncheons per year for Inner Circle membership events.

The Box Office Committee is responsible for providing volunteer staff for box office ticket sales. No volunteer openings are available.

The Community Outreach committee provides volunteers and support for programs in the community, including Speakers Bureau, Young Playwrights Festival and other promotional activities.

The Gift Shop Committee operates, manages and staffs the Sharon Smith Myers Gift Shop in the Wharton Center Lobby, generating extra income for Wharton Center. A minimum time commitment is required for volunteering daytime and evening hours.

View additional information about the gift shop.

The membership Committee compiles and maintains a directory of Inner Circle volunteers and promotes recruitment of new members.

The Newsletter Committee is responsible for providing newsletters for Inner Circle members. The committee chair and vice chair collect, write and edit articles, design and prepare the layout, and coordinate the printing and mailing of each issue. Committee members may assist in all aspects of newsletter production, but are primarily responsible for mailing preperations such as labeling and folding.

The Preview Lectures Committee is responsible for ushering patrons into pre-event presentations that educate and enrich ticket holders so they may appreciate and enjoy performances more fully. Previews are held one hour before selected performances.

The Task-At-A-Time Committee is responsible for assisting other Inner Circle Committees and Wharton Center on an on-call basis as needs arise in areas such as mailings, receptions, and community outreach.
