Casting call

Looking for students to work alongside Shakespearean trained actors.

Wharton Center’s Institute for Arts & Creativity is looking for up to 30 high school/middle school students to spend a week fully immersed in the art of Shakespearian theatre with the extraordinary actors/teaching artists from the Stratford Festival of Canada. This is a free program and students do not have to have previous acting experience.

The High School Shakespeare Immersion Program is a rare and unique opportunity for selected students to gain tremendous insight into Shakespeare by working on the plays themselves with members of the best classical theatre company in North America.  The project has been an enormous success, from the viewpoint of the Institute, student, teacher, and the Stratford staff.

Students involved will participate in workshops focused on text analysis of Shakespeare’s greatest works, participate in a variety of theatre exercises/activities and keep journals to engage with and reflect on the works they are examining. At the end of the week, students will celebrate their achievements by performing an abridged Shakespeare play for friends, family and school officials on the stage of the Pasant Theatre at Wharton Center.

To apply, please contact Laurie Briseño at briseno@whartoncenter.com or via fax at (517) 353-5329. Students must fill out the Parent Recommendation and Student Application forms to be considered. Applications are due by no later than October 5, 2018.

The High School Shakespeare Immersion Program is made possible in part by the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities with additional support provided by Annie Holmes.
