Wharton Center Concession Renovations

Over the summer, our concession stands received a major glow-up. This update is one of many aimed at enhancing the patron experience.

The concession areas were original to our facility opening in 1982. They had become well-worn, with little to no updates over those 44 years. Additionally, with the new alcohol and expanded offerings last season, we needed aesthetic improvements to continue serving our patrons in the best way possible. We interviewed Jarrod Bradford, Senior Director of Operations & Administration to learn more about these renovations!

How long has this project been in the works & what went into the planning?

"We began the planning process in spring 2023. Initially, we considered renovating the concession areas as part of the carpet, paint, handrail, and lobby furniture project completed in summer 2024. However, we ultimately decided to divide the work into separate phases. We engaged TMP Architecture, which also advised us on the 2024 project. Ric Whitney, TMP’s Senior Food Service Designer, worked with our team, led by Cody Manthei, Wharton Center's Event Services Manager and Matt Kribs, Wharton Center's House Manager, to develop the design and functionality of the renovated spaces."

When you first saw the completed stands, what was your reaction?

"I was very impressed.  They exceeded my expectations and I was very excited for our guests and staff to see them."

Are there any new features that you're particularly excited about?

"For many years, we have wanted to add an ADA-accessible counter and ordering station for our guests. We were pleased to accomplish this in all three concession areas, seamlessly integrating each station into the overall design."

What are the biggest changes patrons will notice?

"The new spaces are bright and engaging. Although they appear larger, they are essentially the same size as before. The materials complement the character of the existing facility, and the new menu boards are easier to read."

What was updated behind the scenes that patrons might not necessarily see/notice?

"One major behind-the-scenes improvement was the addition of refrigeration in each concession area. Before the renovations, many items were stored in refrigerators throughout the facility, including in the basement, requiring our team to retrieve them as needed.  Now everything is right where we can easily access it!"

What do you hope patrons say about the new concession experience?

"I hope guests feel the new concession experience meets the high standards they have come to expect when visiting Wharton Center. Our goal is to provide an experience that feels refined, elevated, and efficient. I look forward to hearing their feedback!"

We can't wait for you to experience our enhanced concessions and hope you enjoy them as much as we do. Learn more about our refreshment offerings.
