Bring Arts & Creativity to Teaching & Learning

The Kennedy Center Partners in Education (KCPIE) Program is a partnership between Ingham ISD and Wharton Center for Performing Arts. It is based on the belief that teachers’ professional training in arts integration is essential for efforts to increase the artistic literacy of young people.

This annual program for Ingham ISD and surrounding school districts invites preK-12 teachers and administrators to:

  1. Participate in an Arts Integration Summer Institute where educators and guest artists come together to deepen their understanding of arts integration through activity and conversation. The 2022-23 Summer Institute will be held August 9-10 at the Wharton Center for Performing Arts. Attendance at this Institute is required for participation in the KCPIE program.
  2. Become part of a Professional Learning Community (PLC) where educators gather to discuss and learn about new topics in arts integration. Each PLC meeting provides for exchange between teaching artists and classroom teachers, peer-to-peer learning, modeling of activities, and workshops by specialists. There are three afterschool meetings over the course of the school year; time and place are to be determined.
  3. Select from local teaching artists in the visual or performing arts to work directly in their classroom. Teaching artists collaborate with classroom teachers to plan, write, implement, and assess an arts integrated residency. Educators support and engage with students as they learn through participation in the creative process. At the end of the year, all participants meet for a final reflection and celebration of the year’s work in arts integration.

Cost of Program: $200 per person. If you are struggling with the cost of the program, please reach out and we can help to make participation possible.

SCECHs may be earned through participation in the summer institute, the PLC’s, and the classroom residencies. PreK-12 teachers and administrators are welcome.

To register, visit Ingham ISD’s Professional Development offerings.

Attendance is limited to 32 participants.
