MasterWorks 4: Tchaikovsky & Beethoven
MasterWorks Series Presented by The Loomis Law Firm
Guest Artist: Bion Tsang, Cello
Haydn: Symphony No. 43 in E-Flat Major, "Mercury"
Tchaikovsky: Variations on a Rococo Theme for Cello & Orchestra, Op. 33
Beethoven: Symphony No. 6 in F Major, Op. 68, "Pastoral"
"Simply put, Tsang is an artist who guarantees the future of our music. His playing is inspiring to hear and inspiring to watch," said The Los Angeles Times. Michigan native and Grammy nominated Tsang will perform Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme. Inspired partly by his idol Mozart, this work reflects the poise and elegance of the classical style. Often referred to as the "Father of the Symphony," Haydn was Beethoven's teacher. We will hear symphonies by both composers, concluding with Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 which, in its extra musical depictions of nature, makes it stand as among the first programmatic symphonies in history and a perennial favorite in the concert hall.
